ILHAM × SAM: “Trace and Memory” Chia Chuyia

Performance by participating artist Chia Chuyia based on memories of her childhood in Sekinchan, a small coastal town in Selangor where fishing and rice farming were the primary economic activities in the 1970s. As a performative gesture, Chia imprints the silhouette of her body on a bed of padi stalks, channelling the memory of rice in her early life in deeply sensorial, corporeal ways.
