The Mystery of Surya Buana  with Saidah Rastam

When the Federation of Malaysia was formed in 1963, tensions escalated between Malaysia and Indonesia. Radio broadcasts were an important tool in psychological warfare between the two countries, and for the first time, Malaysia needed songs of war.

Barely weeks before Konfrontasi began, Surya Buana, an enigmatic figure arrived in Kuala Lumpur, and soon became a key figure in composing patriotic songs during this period. Join author and composer Saidah Rastam as she recounts Surya Buana’s legacy and explains, why in these tumultous times, his voice matters, more than ever.
