Reading in Time of Crisis

ILHAM is delighted to host a talk by Narawan Pathomvat (Kyo) in our Resource Library on the 3rd Floor at ILHAM on 28 October 2015 (Wednesday) from 6.00 - 7.00PM. The Reading Room (http://readingroombkk.org/) is a contemporary art library and archive located in the heart of Bangkok. It contains 1,000-plus items, including: a contemporary Thai art archive, art reference books from all over the world, as well as books related to critical theory and literature. The Reading Room also regularly organises talks, film and video screenings, as well as workshops from various fields from art, literature, cinema, politics, and cultural studies. These events contribute to enriching critical discourses among the Thai public, outside of formal education settings. Kyo will be reflecting on some of the activities and programmes that are held in her space and how these are asking big questions about contemporary Thai culture and politics.

Narawan Pathomvat (Kyo) is founder and director of contemporary art library and non-profit platform, The Reading Room, Bangkok. She is also lecturer at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Archaeology at Silpakorn University, Bangkok. She studied at Pratt Institute, New York, and previously worked for Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New York, and Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong. Kyo is also an independent curator, writer, and translator. She is currently a researcher-in-residence at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, where she is working on a project to map and analyse Southeast Asian contemporary art writings.
